Masseter Botox in Seoul |
Apgujeong EU:GENES Skin Clinic
Masseter Botox is one of the most popular treatments in Korea for softening a wide, square jawline. At Apgujeong EU:GENES Skin Clinic, Dr. Jung plans each treatment around your bone structure and muscle strength for a slimmer, natural-looking lower face.
What is masseter Botox?
The masseters are the strong chewing muscles at the angles of your jaw. In some people, genetics, chewing habits or teeth clenching make these muscles large, which gives the lower face a wide or square shape.
Masseter Botox places botulinum toxin into this muscle. Over the following weeks, the muscle becomes less bulky from reduced use, and the jawline gradually looks slimmer and softer. Many people also find it helps with clenching or grinding; this is an off-label use, so it should be part of a medical conversation.
Who is it for?
Good candidates have a wide lower face caused by prominent masseter muscles, which you can often feel as a firm bulge when you clench your teeth. It also suits people who clench or grind and notice jaw tension.
It is less suitable if your jaw width comes mainly from bone, since Botox only reduces muscle. People with thin faces or early skin laxity should be cautious, as reducing the muscle may make the cheeks look hollow or saggy. Avoid treatment during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with neuromuscular disorders, with infection in the area, or with a known allergy. If you have jaw pain, a dental assessment may also be needed.

Your treatment at EU:GENES
In your 1:1 consultation, Dr. Jung Yoo-jin feels your masseters while you clench and relax, and looks at your face from the front, both sides and below. She checks for differences between sides, skin firmness, and how your jaw fits with your cheeks and chin.
She then marks a safe injection zone on each side, staying away from the smile muscles nearby, and injects the product herself. The dose is adjusted to your muscle size. Our aim is a gentle, proportionate result, not an over-slimmed look that can age the face.
Results & how long they last
This treatment works slowly. Chewing may feel a little weaker after one to two weeks, but visible slimming usually starts at around four weeks and reaches its best at about eight to twelve weeks. Results typically last four to six months. With repeated sessions, the muscle may stay smaller for longer.
Downtime, aftercare & possible side effects
You can return to normal activities right away. Avoid massaging your jaw, lying flat for four hours, saunas, alcohol and heavy exercise on the day. Choosing softer foods for a few weeks can help if chewing feels tired.
Possible side effects include tenderness, bruising, mild chewing fatigue, a temporary uneven smile if product spreads toward the smile muscles, and, occasionally, bulging when chewing where parts of the muscle remain active. In some people, loss of volume can make the lower cheeks look slightly hollow. These effects are temporary and can often be adjusted at your next treatment.
FAQ
Will it change how I eat?
Most people eat normally. Tough or chewy foods may feel more tiring for a few weeks while you adjust.
Can I combine it with filler?
Yes. Some patients pair jaw slimming with chin filler or jawline filler to refine the whole profile. Dr. Jung will advise whether that would help.
How often do I need it?
Many people repeat treatment every four to six months. Over time, some can space sessions further apart.
