What is a lip flip?
The orbicularis oris is the circular muscle around your mouth. When you smile, it can curl the upper lip inward so it looks thinner. A lip flip places a few tiny injections of botulinum toxin along the upper lip border to relax the edge of this muscle.
As the muscle relaxes, the upper lip rolls slightly outward. More of the pink lip shows at rest and when you smile. No volume is added, so the result is very subtle.
Who is it for?
A lip flip suits people who want a small change, whose upper lip "disappears" when they smile, or who want to try a fuller look before considering filler. It can also help with a mildly gummy smile in some cases.
It is not ideal if you want clearly fuller lips. Lip filler is the better option for that. Because it affects lip control, it may not suit singers, wind or brass musicians, or anyone who relies on precise lip movements. As with all Botox, avoid it during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with neuromuscular disorders, with a cold sore or infection on the lips, or with a botulinum toxin allergy. If you often get cold sores, tell the doctor before treatment.

At your 1:1 consultation, Dr. Jung Yoo-jin looks at your lips at rest, while talking and while smiling. She checks your lip shape, balance between the upper and lower lip, and how much gum shows, then explains honestly whether a lip flip, filler or a combination would suit your goals.
If you go ahead, Dr. Jung places a few tiny injections just above the upper lip border herself. The treatment takes only minutes. Because the lips are so sensitive to change, we always use a conservative dose.
Results & how long they last
You will usually notice the change within a few days, with the full result at about two weeks. Because the dose is small and the lips move constantly, a lip flip typically lasts about two to three months, which is shorter than Botox in other areas.
Downtime, aftercare & possible side effects
There is little downtime, although the lips can feel tender and may swell or bruise slightly. Avoid pressing or massaging your lips, lying flat for four hours, strenuous exercise, saunas and alcohol on the day.
For the first few weeks, some people find it harder to drink through a straw, whistle, spit or say certain sounds such as "p" and "b." Rarely, the lip may feel weak or liquid may dribble slightly when drinking. An uneven smile is also possible. These effects are temporary and fade as the product wears off.
