What is Upper Lip Lines Botox?
Upper lip lines, often called smoker's lines or barcode lines, are the fine vertical creases that radiate upward from the lip border. Despite the name, smoking is not the only cause. Years of pursing, sipping through straws, whistling and simply talking all fold the skin in the same place, and thinning collagen with age makes those folds stay.

Because the mouth is a sensitive area, the dose is deliberately conservative. Dr. Jung personally performs every injection using a very fine needle at a few precise points along the upper lip. If lines are deep at rest, she may suggest adding a skin booster or light filler in a later session rather than increasing the toxin dose.
Results & How Long They Last
Softening typically appears within 3 to 7 days, peaking at around two weeks. Because the doses around the mouth are small, results often last a little shorter than in the forehead, typically 2 to 3 months for most patients. Regular maintenance can help the lines form less over time.
Downtime, Aftercare & Possible Side Effects
There is usually no real downtime. You may see small bumps or pinpoint redness that settle within an hour or so.
- Avoid rubbing the area, intense exercise and saunas for the rest of the day
- Stay upright for about four hours after treatment
Possible side effects include mild bruising or tenderness, and, if the effect is stronger than intended, temporary difficulty drinking through a straw, whistling or pronouncing letters such as "p" and "b".
